A beautiful Fall weekend set the stage for this enjoyable flintknapping and primitive arts event on the shore of Lake Erie. Dave and Cathy Pedler, Archaeologists from Mercyhurst College in nearby Erie, organized yet another successful weekend of activities that served to promote public awareness of primitive technology.
The curious public and devoted aficionados alike were treated to many displays of modern lithic tool reproductions, pottery, wood carving, atl-atl demonstrations, and traditional Seneca foods. As always, a moonlit crowd on Saturday evening witnessed the Secret Ear-O'-Corn Ooga Booga initiation ceremony. Chief Dana Klein inducted a multitude of new members, including many of the Pedler's Anthropology students from Mercyhurst.
A good representative group of knappers from the eastern Great Lakes region were on hand to demonstrate their skills. Old friends were reunited and new friendships forged as the knapping community seems to grow yearly.
